Can I purchase photoshop from an educator and use for commercial use?

I am looking to open a small photo studio and will need photoshop for editing. My brother-in-law is a school teacher and gets the program at a discount. Does anyone know if I can purchase it through him and use it for commercial use?

You can, but you will be violating the EULA (end user license agreement). Adobe can legally pursue legal action against you, but whether they would or not is a different issue. Each EULA is different, read it before you go ahead with this idea.

No, that would be a violation of the license. It would leave both of you open to a lawsuit and a heavy fine. However, if you're determined to do it then you should definitely make sure you have a lawyer on retainer, since software companies are much more likely to audit and come down hard on commercial offenders than on individuals.

You could also try something like the gimp (http://www.gimp.org/windows/) and see if it will do what you need.
Legally, no you can't. What he would get would be an education version, it is only for use by those attending that school.
