in this tutorial im stuck on the wind filter. in my Photoshop its grayed out so i cant click it. any ideas on what i should do?

most likely you didn't rasterize. it's important to rasterize or else you won't be able to do anything with a text layer.
Click on the layer, then follow this
Layer %26gt; Rasterize %26gt; Type
Now you should be able to edit it.
